There are journeys measured in kilometres, and there are journeys measured in the lives they touch. For Zimbabwean cyclists Vusumusi and Thando, their remarkable adventure has been both.

After cycling through 22 African countries, covering more than 21,000 kilometres over two years, the duo is finally returning home to Zimbabwe. Their journey has become a symbol of resilience, unity, and the incredible diversity that makes Africa unique.
At Cultural Villages, we are honoured to have partnered with VusuThando as they shared stories from communities across the continent and highlighted the beauty of authentic cultural tourism.
A Journey Beyond the Bicycle
What began as an ambitious cycling expedition quickly grew into something much bigger.
Throughout their travels, Vusumusi and Thando visited villages, met local families, experienced different traditions, and documented the everyday stories that often go untold. They demonstrated that Africa is not just a collection of countries separated by borders, but a continent connected by hospitality, culture, and shared humanity.
Their adventure inspired thousands of people to look beyond traditional tourism and discover the authentic experiences waiting in local communities.
Our Partnership with VusuThando
Cultural Villages exists to connect travellers with genuine cultural experiences hosted by local communities.
Partnering with VusuThando was a natural fit because their mission reflects everything we stand for.
As Cultural Villages ambassadors, they have helped showcase rural communities, promote responsible tourism, and encourage travellers to experience Africa through its people rather than simply its destinations.
Every village they visited reinforced an important message: the greatest attraction in Africa is its people.
Welcome Home
We are delighted to welcome VusuThando back to Zimbabwe after this extraordinary achievement.
Their return is not simply the end of a cycling expedition—it is the beginning of many conversations about sustainable tourism, youth empowerment, and celebrating African heritage.
Hosted by Cultural Villages
As proud partners, Cultural Villages is honoured to host VusuThando during their return to Zimbabwe.
We will be welcoming them in Hwange and Harare, where they will meet supporters, tourism stakeholders, and members of the public to share stories from the road and inspire future generations of African explorers.
Their experiences perfectly demonstrate why authentic cultural travel matters. Every conversation, every village visit, and every cultural exchange creates opportunities for communities to benefit from tourism while preserving their heritage.
Looking Ahead
Although this chapter of their journey is ending, the mission continues.
Together with Cultural Villages, VusuThando will continue promoting authentic community-based tourism across Africa, encouraging travellers to experience destinations through local hosts, traditional customs, and meaningful cultural exchanges.
Their story reminds us that travel is not about how far you go—it is about the people you meet along the way.
